Every founder searches this. Almost nobody publishes the real answer, because distributors treat it as proprietary.
A UK beauty buyer wants four things in a pitch: a one-sentence reason the product exists, evidence it sells, proof it is legally compliant, and confidence you can supply it. Luxury Beauty Distribution prepares brands against this exact standard before any buyer meeting is booked.
The four questions in a buyer's head
|
Buyer question |
What they are really assessing |
What satisfies it |
|---|---|---|
|
Why does this exist? |
Whether it fills a gap on their shelf |
One sentence, no jargon, that they can repeat to their category head |
|
Will it sell? |
Rate of sale risk |
Sell-through data from any comparable channel or market |
|
Is it safe to list? |
Legal and reputational exposure |
UK RP, CPSR, SCPN notification, claims substantiation |
|
Can you actually supply it? |
Operational risk |
Stock, lead times, fulfilment, a named partner who handles it |
What kills a pitch
• A brand story with no product truth behind it.
• No sell-through evidence from anywhere — not another market, not e-commerce, not even direct-to-consumer.
• Compliance treated as an afterthought to be sorted 'once we have the listing'.
• A range that is too broad. Buyers list hero SKUs, not catalogues.
• No answer to 'what happens if it sells four times faster than forecast'.
How to structure the pitch
1. Open with the one-sentence proposition. If it takes a paragraph, it is not ready.
2. Show the hero SKU and the reason it is the hero.
3. Present the evidence — sell-through, repeat rate, reviews, comparable market performance.
4. Confirm the compliance position in one line: UK Responsible Person appointed, CPSR held, notification complete.
5. State the supply position: stock, lead time, who fulfils, who manages the account day-to-day.
6. Make the commercial ask, with the terms already modelled.
Why a distributor changes the conversation
Buyers meet hundreds of brands and very few distributors. A pitch that arrives via a distributor the buyer already trades with carries pre-existing operational credibility: the buyer knows who will pick, pack, invoice and fix problems. Luxury Beauty Distribution presents brands into established buyer relationships and manages the account afterwards, which removes the operational risk that causes most buyer rejections.
